Focusing heavily on Ghana’s vulnerable fisheries sector, this AfSol Journal publication exposes how grassroots challenges like youth unemployment, gender inequality, and the friction between foreign investment and local needs directly fuel illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and resource conflicts. Ultimately, Tachie-Menson makes a compelling case for a “Blue Justice” approach, arguing that to truly secure its waters, Ghana must move past strict enforcement and instead balance environmental sustainability with the social equity and economic livelihoods of the people who depend on the ocean the most.
